Solar Power Lights - How to keep them healthy

Solar Products are a fantastic option for lighting in your garden, but occasionally people can have problems, here is a little guide to help with the most common problems.

The most important thing to do with a brand new solar product is 'Switch it Off' and place it in the sunniest part of your garden, try and put it 'South Facing', even if that isn't where its going to be once placed. Leaving the light switched off for 2-3 sunny days, or 4-5 overcast days, will give the battery a really good full charge to start, which will help the battery perform better in the long run. We recommend doing this regularly anyway, perhaps once a month, give it a break by switching off and letting it get a good charge.

Solar Products contain a Rechargeable Battery, they do not last forever but in most cases can be replaced. But occasionally if after charging for a few days and the light still doesn't work, then it usually means that the battery ran down too much and it can't be revived. Thankfully this can be easily tested in most cases, you can simply try your light with a regular battery, most lights use AA or AAA batteries, simply put in a new regular battery, then cover the panel or take into a dark cupboard, and if the light switches on, then you know its just a battery issue, which can be fixed by inserting a new rechargeable battery.

Another common problem is the on/off switch, not all solar products have them, but most do, its usually a slide switch, and sometimes its a slide switch that looks like a push button because it has a silicone cover on it to protect it from the elements. If your solar light has an on/off switch, it is usually in the off position when you receive it.

Sometimes a light may not come on because it has been placed somewhere with light pollution, for example if you have bright street lighting, or if its too close to another solar light, the light panel might not know that it is dark so will stay switched off.

If your light worked initially but has stopped working, it could be that the solar panel has become too dirty to receive a full charge, or the solar panel is positioned somewhere where not enough sun light is getting to it, often people want to place solar lights in darkened shaded areas of their garden to bring some light, but if its too shaded then the panel simply wont charge.

It is also a good idea to bring solar products indoors when the weather is too cold, as a deep frost could damage the panel and the batteries!

We hope this information will help with the most common problems, if you are still experiencing difficulty, please don't hesitate to contact us, and we will help you with your product so you can fully enjoy the benefit of your Solar Light.
