Screws don’t thread properly

I bought a rocket shaped lava lamp for my daughter and you have to screw the legs on yourself. Not only is it quite fiddly but the legs of the rocket didn’t seem to have a proper thread in them to screw in the screws but we made do and have a standing up slightly wobbly lamp.
