Large Black Ash Bucket & Shovel - Galvanised Steel Description
This large robust bucket is made from powder coated galvanised steel, and comes with a hand shovel, that can be stored in the holder on the side of the bucket. Clearing out burned out ashes into a metal bucket is particularly important when the fire burned out recently, sometimes there can be tiny residual embers that are still alight, so cannot be placed into a plastic wheelie bin! The fire can be cleaned out safely and the bucket left outdoors for a day or two to make sure there is nothing smouldering away, and as the bucket comes with a lid, air is cut off to the ash starving any lingering embers of oxygen.
Want to save your wood ash for later? Wood ash can contain around 3% potassium which is an important nutrient for a lot of flowering or fruiting plants, so can be added to compost, or added directly to soil. Some gardeners swear by ash for deterring pests such as slugs, snails, and ants. Ash is also a mild abrasive so can be sprinkled on slippery or icy walkways to increase traction, or when mixed with water used as a cleaning abrasive to buff up metal, or remove sticky residue from labels.
